Ce 6/8 II, Swiss Federal Railways - 1919

The Swiss coal shortage experienced during WW I eventually caused the SBB to abandon the steam locomotive and replace it with electric. A locomotive that could tame the Gotthard Line in those times was pressing the envelope of electric technology. The resulting freight engine was the Ce 6/8 II immediately nicknamed the "Crocodile". It had a one hour rating of 2,500 hp and a top speed of 65 kph. A total of 33 of the "Crocs" were made of this type.

Our Model

Our model was made by Fine Art Models in 1994. It is fabricated in brass and it is extremely finely detailed. Many collectors feel that this locomotive has set a new standard in series produced Gauge One pieces. It has many working features, such as doors that open, windows that slide, etc. Pay special attention to the detailing on the pantographs. Fine Art Models has an established reputation for excellent quality as well as value. Please ask to see the Fine Art Models color brochure. Please don't dismiss this model because its prototype was European. Both the prototype and the model are a testimony to craft, technology, and art. 50 models were made in green (fully subscribed), brown versions (50) are being reserved with FAM for 1996 or 1997 delivery at $6,500.
