Ae 4/7 2-D-1
Swiss Federal Railways

Built in 1927, these locomotives are only now beginning to be retired. Derived from the successful Ae 3/6 class, the Ae 4/7 added another driver and used the same Buchli transmission system. They were the very latest in technology when introduced, hauling the top passenger assignments including the Orient Express. Their top speed of 62 mph reflects the severity of the grades in which they operated. After the introduction of newer locos such as the Re 4/4 series, they have powered freight trains, often doubleheaded.

OUR MODEL

It was made in Korea for the Basil model train shop called Ameba-Schirmer. Simple, sheet photoetched (single etch) brass is the main construction material. Detail is poor and toy-like. Its rarity, rather than its craftsmanship, account for most of its value.
